1937 Reveal

Remember the post on Grandma's furniture? Well, we are done with the vanity/desk, highboy, mirror and vanity chair. They turned out BEAUTIFUL and the owner LOVED them! Here is the message left on my FB page by the owner..."I'm still taken back by how beautiful the pieces of my grandmothers furniture from 1937 look in our home. Thank you for restoring and bringing new life to them. What a great story that these treasures will be as they are passed down through the generations!"

I was honored to be able to show her the possibilities of these special pieces and bring those possibilities to life and  cannot wait to get started on the headboard/footboard bench after Christmas vacation. Enjoy the photos (I forgot to get one of the mirror, I will get the owner to send me an AFTER one  and you will need to use your imagination on the BEFORE of it)

We have not yet been able to determine the maker of the furniture but behind the mirror of the vanity was stamped "Logan Porter Mirror Co, High Point, NC  May 7,1937"  (how cool I got to work on this since my birthday is May 7th) We know that her grandparents were married in 1937 and they got this bedroom set as their wedding gift. just wish we could figure out who the furniture company is that made it.

Announcement

The Tattered Orange Blossom will be coming to Greenville,SC in 2013! My husband recently took a new position that will be moving us out of the Metro Atlanta area and into Upstate SC. We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to the new adventure.

He will be commuting for awhile which means I will still be available for custom painting in the Atlanta area for the time being and if you know anyone in the Upstate I can go ahead and start taking some pieces from there to custom paint as he will be able to help transport small to mid-size pieces back and forth for me on occasion.

Spread the word to all your Upstate friends and family and let them know I am coming that way soon!

Grandma's Special

Look at these gorgeous pieces!!  I had a friend bring these back from her Thanksgiving travels. They belonged to her grandmother and her mom had had them in storage for awhile. When I went to check them out we got to talking and I am going to be refinishing them for her new home. I am going to tackle the vanity, vanity chair and mirror first.

There is also a GORGEOUS headboard and footboard with their original wooden rails and high boy chest that match the vanity. The plan for the headboard and footboard are to turn them into a awesome bench for their home and then I will refinish the highboy as well. I will post before pics once I get them.

I am so happy to be a part of refinishing them and letting grandma's furniture take a special place in my friends new home. Be on the lookout for after pictures as we get pieces done.

Just arrived

Just arrived are some metal/steel barrel lids. I have 1 large and 4 medium sized lids. These would make great  table tops or even painted they would make good art for your wall. Can't wait to get started on working on these...if you are interested in one let me know what I can do for you!

Winner's choice

Here is the chalkboard the winner of my Facebook giveaway chose...it was done in antique white with turquoise then distressed a bit. In the process she also ordered a monogram pumpkin and wanted a pink and green motif.

Martha, Martha, Martha

I cannot believe I forgot to post this picture!! Remember my awesome little Martha Washington table? She has been painted turquoise and I have been searching for the perfect knobs to add to her (so far just can't seem to find anything worthy of her) She has lots of storage, 3 drawers and then both sides open for storage as well.

Here is the BEFORE and the AFTER (minus knobs)...she is for sale and since I have not sealed her yet her color can be changed easily. I also still have the original knobs if you want those painted and put back on. Contact me today!

Opinionated 4 y/o

Earlier this year I painted a cute drum table for a client in NC. I was able to get it to my mom who then delivered it for me. In the process my then 3 y/o niece saw it and called me and said "Aunt KayKay I want you do a pink table for me"...how could I say no?

I found the perfect drum table for her in Boone back at the beginning of the summer and before I knew it my sister sweeped in and claimed it for her redone living room...needless to say Addy-O was not happy. Then in July I was in Tennessee with my mom and came across a neat table that we knew would be perfect.

After much discussion with Addy we picked out paint and got to work...the bottom of the table is done in a hot pink and the edges are glittered (kind of hard to see in the picture) and then the top is finished off with chalkboard paint. She loved it and has been writing/drawing on it ever since she got it home this weekend!

Here are the before and after's...

I want to hear from YOU!!

Yes, my dear followers, fans, friends....tell me what paint colors you want to see. I have picked up several pieces lately and I am dying to paint them but I am BORED with the colors I already have and want to spice things up a bit.

I am dying to paint something a kelly green or a hot pink or a inky, navy blue...would you buy a table or other piece of furniture in those colors? Remember everyone needs a POP of color somewhere or  that one conversational piece in their home.

So, have at it, send me your color choices and then keep an eye out for these new pieces to be for sale!

Don't forget that I am also available for custom painting on a piece(s) you already own and love that just needs a little updating. Email me at karenpartin@hotmail.com for an estimate on your piece and please attach several pictures with a description of what look you are wanting done to it. Please allow up to 2 weeks on custom pieces and a 50% deposit will be required when you drop your item off to me with the remainder due when you pick up the finished product.

We are heading out to the Braselton Antique Festival this weekend and looking forward to getting some inspiration from vendors and meeting a vendor that I have met through FB, can't wait to put a face with a name! If you are in the northern part of Atlanta and have time be sure to head up there and check out the festival.

Have a great weekend and remember to post those colors!!

Pendant lamp

Earlier this year I saw this wire basket at my mother-in-law's and knew exactly what I wanted to do with it...turn it into a pendant lamp!!! It is larger than the picture shows, will try and get a better angle posted later today.

It was super easy as the basket already had an opening in the bottom that the light kit would fit through. I think it would look great hanging over a breakfast table, in a foyer, hanging outside over the front door or anywhere you want/need some lighting. I personally like it black but I will paint it whatever color the buyer requests. Contact me for pricing.

Mom and daughter rocking chair re-do

I had the pleasure of re-doing a rocking chair for some friends from church who were expecting their first baby. This rocking chair belonged to the mom's family and she was rocked in it as a little girl and wanted to update it to use with her own little girl.

The original color was an olive/avocado green and they wanted to go with an antique white and distress it down to where some of the original green would come through...I tried a new product on it, Webster's Chalk Paint powder and I love the way it turned out!

The baby arrived a few days early and had to spend some time in the hospital but she is home now. When I dropped off the rocking chair yesterday they loved it and were already rocking that sweet baby in it before I left.

The after pic was taken in too much sun but I hope you can get a good idea of the final finish.

Custom table

My sister has been redoing her living room and needed a small table to go next to the new sofa. I have had this little drum table for a few weeks and we decided this would be the perfect fit. I painted it a shade lighter than their new wall color, added the monogram and then took a dark walnut stain and wiped it on to darken it a bit to contrast with the new leather sectional they just got. Can't wait to see it in it's new home!

New pieces available for custom painting...

Here are a few new pieces I recently picked up that are available for custom painting...the tobacco box (last picture) does need a new foot but will be done for whoever may be interested in it. The first picture is a Martha Washington sewing table with 3 drawers and side storage. Contact me for pricing questions.

What a cutie...

Last month when my mom was visiting we wound up a store I had not been into before. While we were there I came across a cute little antique drum table, while the price was good I decided to haggle a bit. When I could not get them down to what I felt like it was worth I walked away. For the last month I have talked about that table over and over to the point where my husband said, "Just pay it and go get it!"

Well, today I went back and that table was still there so I made an offer and ended up getting it! I am soooo happy to finally have it and cannot wait to get started on painting it!! Here is the BEFORE picture. If interested and get with me this week you can pick your color...isn't she precious!!

Zebra love...

I picked up a set of chairs several months back with the intention of rehabbing them for my living room. Well, one thing after another kept coming up so I still have not gotten the new couch I was wanting so I figured it was time to do something with these chairs and put them out there on my business page.

This is the rehab I just finished on one of the chairs(still need to add the new casters to the chair), this one has been SOLD but I have another one just like this I can do for you. I can do the same color and fabric or I can customize for you. Message me if you are interested in the other chair or anything else you see pictured!

Trunks

My mom has been visiting for a few days so we have hit up several antique places in the area. Today I came across these 2 trunks that, when we opened them, were full of lighting equipment.  I bought them with plans to rehab the trunks and then figure out what to do with the lighting equipment at a later date.  I plan on rehabbing them into either toy boxes, coffee tables, benches, the possibilities are endless!
The trunks measure 30 L x 17 W x 18 H and both come with a pull out tray that has dividers.

Below are a few pics...if interested in one of them let me know ASAP so you can choose your paint color,etc... If you are interested in any lighting equipment let me know as well and I will give you a list of what was inside each trunk, I just went ahead and took pictures once I got home I still need to clean up the light bulbs as they had dust on them but are apparently still useable.

Busy Busy Busy

It's been a busy week at my house! My husband is finishing up building the set for the spring children's musical for our church so he has pretty much taken over my workspace thus putting larger pieces on hold until this weekend.

While he has been occupying my space I have taken over the sun porch and cranked out a few smaller projects. I had a couple of vintage wrought iron plant holders I added some of my favorite turquoise paint to, I worked on a chalkboard made from an old cabinet door and I finished the bench from my previous post.

The bench is NOT FOR SALE at this time but I can make more chalkboards in a variety of colors, right now I have turquoise, red, lime green, yellow and hot pink. The plant holders are for sale too, either alone or as a set (actually a set of 3 but have not finished the 3rd one yet, the one pictured is the 2 tiered plant holder the other 2 are 1 tier). Contact me if you are interested in purchasing.

Sneaky Peek

Here is a sneaky peek of what is to come in the next week. I actually picked up this vintage water bench at a auction a couple years ago and I love it just the way it is. I toy with painting or staining it every few months but after watching a squirrel try to have his way with it last week I have decided to bite the bullet and sand it and take a brush to it.
Not sure yet if I will sell it or keep it, if you are interested shoot me a message and we can discuss.
